A friendly colleague at the Knowledge Lab sent me a email about Inside Stories the other day which made my week. It was a hell of a week, full of deadlines, admin squabbles, working in the evenings and institutional politics. But Wilma said she loved the book which means a lot because she is both a teacher and a researcher, so we aimed it at people like her. She said "Alex [one of the characters] reminded me a lot of myself when I was her age - fairytale fiend! Travelling in your mind is so much easier at that age than getting on a plane. I used to have a coal fire in my bedroom when I was little and I used to tell stories to my little sister about the magical ruby cavern between the coals. *laughing* " That's exactly what we were aiming for with the book. We wanted people to remember back to the magic stories had for them when they were children.
She also wrote a 5* Amazon review which you can see here.
The other cheering aspect of the week was a visit from Yishay and Steve who did a workshop for collegues in my department about teaching patterns. You can see Yish's photos as proof of my colleagues working happily with students, with smiles all round. Very satisfying.
