Hi Judy - the teenagers on Schome have had this problem when trying to create an account outside the Schome island. There used to be a workaround, where you could sign up in German (I think) and you could get on without Paypal - but then Linden Lab spotted people were doing that and got rid of all those accounts.
I'm pretty sure that, on Schome, we had a company doing block registrations for us that got us round the Paypal/credit card problem. If you post a query on the Schome forum, I'm sure someone who was involved in that aspect of the project will be able to offer useful advice.

Thanks R3beccaf, that's helpful. I will go over to the forums and ask. Schome is one of the reasons I decided to try SL with my classes, by the way!
