One laptop per Child is a great initiative.
What do you think about this? http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/127976/british-firm-launches-169-laptop.html
It will be available in the UK from the 1st of November.

You can buy the Asus EEEPC instead of the OLPC machine. Maybe get the Computer Science Department to buy some EEE PC laptops and test their usability ;)

This is the Wikipedia page for the EEE PC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASUS_Eee_PC . Another comprehensive review can be found here : http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/eee-pc-review.ars .In the UK you can buy the Asus EEE PC from here http://www.rm.com/HE/Products/product.asp?cref=PD1030046&srcurl=/rmcomhome.asp
That last link is good when buying the laptop for educational purposes because it's really cheap. I wonder if I could buy one through the University at that price :)... Enjoy
